Anna Karin Rynander

Sweden/Norway, b. 1960.

1987-1991 Art Academy Trondheim, Norway, Intermedia department.

First sound art work: Homage ‘Number 1A, 1948’, Jackson Pollock, ‘Action Sounding, 1993’.

Anna Karin Rynander and engineer Per-Olof Sandberg have worked together with electronic and computer based art projects since 1993.

They made a sound painting in 1993 called Homage to Jackson Pollock. It is a full-scale reproduction of Pollock’s painting Number 1A 1948, without paint. Instead the sound of paint is moving over the white surface of the canvas. After this work they made several interactive sound sculptures moving sound in space.

1994 they installed Bird machines in the road-cross with the heaviest traffic in Norway. When cars stopped for red light, 9 highly focused megaphones started to play birdsongs.

1998 they made 11 Sound showers for Gardermoen Airport outside Oslo. The visitor enters a circle and a positive refreshing sound starts automatically. The sound is clearly audible for the user but virtually suppressed for others due to a custom designed sound lens. The Sound showers are equipped with pictogram, computer, digital sound library and a control program which compose the sound stream in real time. Each visit is unique.
