Annica Kjell

Sweden, b. 1956. Stockholm.

Art Studies at l’Ecole d’Art d’Aix-en-Provence, France, 1993-98. Sound-engineer and music producer at the Swedish National Broadcasting Company 1977-92.

First sound piece: Le Souffle (The Breath) 1998.

I am working with sculpture, installations, photo, video and sound, audible sculptures. Recurring themes are breath and pulse.

Visual breathing prothesis, 1997, a kind of large umbrellas with small engine, hanging from the ceiling, open and close with a slow pulse, generating a subtle rhythm of clattering and clicks.

Le Souffle (The Breath), 1998, contains a structure for emitting sound. Two fishing-nets, made by thin wire of copper, floating in space, sound of water and breathings, a number of small loudspeakers in the net. The sound is moving around in a slow rhythm, created by electronic circuits.

Breath-Plays, 1997, a series of playful, rhythmical breath-compositions.

Solitude, 1997, a bathtub, small loudspeakers, and the sound of the bathtub.

In other works I use materials like latex, condoms, wine, water, glass, water sound. My work has been presented in Aix-en-Provence, Marseille, Antibes in France and in Stockholm, Sweden.

In 2006 I was developing new soundnets.
