Dinka Pignon
B. 1951 in Sarajevo, Bosnia. Lives in Vancouver BC, Canada.
First sound art work: Nach Leif (video/audio installation/performance) 1989, sound processing by Paul Pignon.
Dinka Pignon is an interdisiplinary artist working with spatial video installation and performance art. Dealing with ‘mixed realities’ (the borderline between the physical and the virtual), her work is characterized by a strong affinity for the phenomenal, conceptual and liminal. Sound is an integral part of her work and an always present component, inseparable from the visual and other elements she uses. The sound is often created by others, composers and musicians she closely collaborates with, and sometimes by the artist herself, using processed music samples combined with her own recordings. Thus Dinka’s role in the creation of sound for her pieces can be generally defined as that of a sound designer rather than sound maker.
