Heidi Mortenson

B. in Jutland. Lives in Berlin. Works – everywhere.

Suburb Kid, Dancer, Bartender, PR Manager for Electronic Club, DJ, Musician, Record Label Boss.

First sound art work: high speed version of La-bamba on my ghetto blast 1985.

Heidi Mortenson was born and grew up on the west coast of Jutland where she practiced the accordion and listened to the metallic sounds of her dad fixing cars in the garage and her mum playing the organ. After graduation she moved to Copenhagen to study modern dance & choreography. She also played the acoustic guitar and piano, but was then introduced to electronic music, which inspired her to move to Barcelona.

Here she started an intense self study on machines and became an integrated part of the electronic underground scene. She developed in a new sonic universe and began experimenting with recording herself singing inside a washing machine, rebuild a telephone receiver into a microphone, hooking up with a walkie-talkie system and more... After playing her very first concert Heidi was selected Resident Artist 2002-03 at the annual experimental LEM Festival in Barcelona. She hereafter packed her bags and went on a European tour with visual constructor SOLU aka Mia Makela, with whom she later performed the Opening Act of the Transmediale Festival 2004 in Berlin.

Heidi Mortenson is a One Woman Band, an enlightend show woman wired to tomboytronica and electrosoul dirtyrocking nutechpop. The songs are melodic and driven on beats and a full powered voice. Think harmonies, rhythmic twists and crisp cut up sound-patches. Live on stage she makes use of instruments, gimmicks, effect-units, computer and special built microphones. Add emotional overdrive, a mentalist flavor and a radiating energy.

Heidi Mortenson has the past years played many European solo concerts and also duo performances with vaudeville dame Kevin Blechdom, aswell as colaborating with the electro rap duo Scream Club, and playing with her bearded band The Uncontrollables. Mortenson's on-stage ideas are creative and imaginary such as a straight jacket of crazy love, a flashing lights suit, and a queer tiger.

Heidi's debut album Wired Stuff is out on WiRED RECORDS.
