Irma Optimist
Finland, b. 1952 in Vaasa. Lives and works in Helsinki and Vaasa.
1991 Started performing as Irma Optimist. 1994 Optimist became Licentiate of Economics and Business Administration after being M.Sc. in Mathematics. 1997 Optimist defended her doctoral thesis and became Doctor of Economics and Business Administration.
First performance: Look and Lecture: Prey and Predators.
Irma Optimist is a performance artist and senior lecturer of mathematics, her research area being chaos theory.
In her performances, Irma Optimist combines the female view of the real world with the world of abstract mathematics. She intends to produce interferences on the field of scientific logic. Together with her son, Lauri Luhta, she curates events with sound art and performance.
