Jennifer Espling

Jennifer Espling has taken an interest in combining visual art, text and sound to make a narrative touching, suggestive or comic. Together with experimental guitarist Ola Nordqvist she makes live performances, regarding themselves a band.

Vandra med Bob (2002) is both the name of the band and a performance, inspired by Öyvind Fahlström’s language materalistic works. Jennifer reads her own stories about Bob Life-Superintendent, ravaging between his own beautiful word constructs and the manifest reality.

Ola Nordqvist’s guitar interjects, states, contradicts, and emphasizes her absurd stories. In the background, video projections of monumental, mutated plastic landscapes are shown.

Dagbrottet (2005) is a film about Ivan Laurin fighting isolation in a remote quarry. Desperately trying to build gravel roads and better communication, he finally burns himself and his house out. The elements of the story are a narrating voice, images (from a quarry) and manipulated field recordings (from the same quarry).

The story is written by Jennifer, and together with Ola she has created the visuals and the sound material. Dagbrottet is also a live performance.
