Lena Frilund
Sweden, b. 1969, works in Sweden and internationally.
School of Music and Musicology in Gothenburg.
First sound art work: Slumpmusik för 7 övningsrum på en Folkhögskola (“Random Music for 7 rehearsal rooms at a folk high school”), 1988, not edited or published.
My contribution to the art of sound is mainly on the live stage. My focus is the human voice. I work as a professional singer, director and performance artist, and also as a composer. As a singer, I mainly work with contemporary music, both pure vocal music and Electro Acoustic music, often in collaboration with composers, sometimes with my own voice as the only medium.
I am the artistic director of the neo-choir Rabalder in Gothenburg, in which I work with developing new aspects of “choir music” and the soundscape that 30 voices can create.
Together with Anne Pajunen, Sweden, I run Svenska Moderna Operaensemblen SMOK (The Swedish Modern Opera Ensemble SMOK), whose main activity is to perform a contemporary form of music theatre, in a modern context, with new technology. In our performances, we make no distinction between sound, music, art, theatre, design – or whatever element we work with.
