Marika Orenius combines mostly film, video, photography, drawing, sound and new media.

B. 1971 in Finland. Lives in Sweden.

MA in three Academies of Fine Arts: Kuvataideakatemia in Helsinki, Ecole Nationale Supérièure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and Konsthögskolan Valand in Gothenburg.

First sound work: Chastity, beauty and love, in collaboration with Hanne Ivars 1995.

Her art deals mostly with questions such as how it is to be as human being, especially a woman, and how to discover ways, which make the female integrity get a chance to create a living space of her own, which is independent of the social and structural phenomenon that surround the human being.

Her works have been shown internationally in exhibitions and film festivals. She has worked at three residences by Pépinières européennes pour jeunes artistes in Glasgow 1999, Nifca – Nordic Institute of Contemporary Art in Gothenburg 2001 and Finnish Artists’ Studio Foundation in Quebec 2005.

In 2003 she started a gallery, 300m3 Art Space Göteborg, with two other persons.

She is a member of Finnish artist organisations Muu r.y. Her videos are distributed by Finnish AV-arkki, Swedish Filmform and Canadian GIV.
