‘’I often construct a humorous, absurd and surreal universe in my performances. Through these I depict joys and conflicts in the paradoxes that exist in commonplace objects and situations, in cultural rituals and pop culture. Through constructed challenges or personal statements I aim to create new poetic understandings and visual tableaux of joyful melancholy. One may call my work ‘feel-good performances’ about topics such as music, death, disappointment and suicide’’ Molly Haslund, 2011
Molly Haslund trained at the Royal Art Academy of Fine Art (graduated 2005) in Denmark and Glasgow School of Art (2003-2005). She works in the intersection between sculpture, installations and performances referring to visual arts, performing arts, the music hall, stand-up comedy, literature and music. Haslund has worked on several projects simultaneously that embrace personal rituals, socially engaging workshops and interaction design that focus on audience participation. Haslund works alone and in the performance duo and Molly and Me (2007-pt.)
Lately the core of her artistic practice has been solo performance, where she addresses existential questions in a very tongue in cheek manner. In different ways Haslund’s work uncovers her personal story and background equally to the lives of famous, and less famous, artists. Haslund’s work is often identified as site-specific and is ether developed locally, or adapted to new locations, which means that her performances never follow the same manuscript; Every encounter with Molly Haslund’s work is unique and surprising.
