Monica Larsson

Sweden, b. 1959.

MFA Academy of Fine Arts, Umeå University 1995

First sound work: I hope nobody see me like this 1998.

“Monica Larsson’s sound art has its base in existential questions. Voices talking about conditions for artistic creativity, about crisis that leads to development and dreams that give nourishment to new insights in life. The voices are central even if they sometimes are mixed together with each other and get less distinct. Sometimes you have to sharpen your listening to catch the soundtrack that arouses your interest, before another voice takes over more clearly and upholds its justification at the expense of the other. The voices have no names – they are soundtracks from worlds of human experience, and parts of a collective consciousness of ideas, thoughts and dreams. The soundtracks are laced with forms and colours from the melancholia of nature: a shimmering water surface in a foggy autumn day, some ceramic bowls filled with marsh-black water or feather light bookmark pictures in a tree moving in the wind.”
