Paola Livorsi (b.1967) studied composition with Riccardo Piacentini at the Verdi Conservatory in Turin , obtaining her diplome in 1996, and holds a degree in history of music from the University of Turin.

She has attended masterclasses at the Chigiana Academy of Siena with Franco Donatoni (1995), in Novara with György Ligeti (1996), at the Summer Academy of IRCAM with Ivan Fedele and Salvatore Sciarrino (1997, 1999).

In 1997 she received a grant from CIMO (Centre for International Mobility) to study with Kaija Saariaho and Jean-Baptiste Barrière at the Sibelius Academy of Helsinki.

She followed the computer music courses of CCMIX (Centre de Création Musicale Iannis Xenakis, ex-Ateliers Upic) in Paris in 1999-2000, and IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique - Centre George Pompidou) in 2000-2001. She has always been interested in sound and is regularly using electronic means in her works.

Music by Livorsi has been performed in Turin (Settembre Musica 1998), Paris (Agora 2002), Rome (ControCanto 2002), Helsinki (Musica Nova 2003), Saarbrücken (Musik im 21. Jahrhundert 2003, Klangforum Wien) and Takefu (Japan, Takefu International Music Festival 2004, Arditti Quartet, and 2005, Mayumi Miyata and Tosiya Suzuki).

The musical association « De Sono » of Turin sustained her studies in 1998-2001. In 2000 she got a scholarship from G.A.I. (Italian Young Artists). Her work has been acknowledged by different Finnish institutions, among which the Finnish Cultural Foundation (2004-05). She lives in Helsinki since 2001 and is a member of the Society of Finnish Composers.

Since 1997 she is correspondent from abroad for the Italian review Il Giornale della Musica.

 

Premieres in 2005 : Helsinki, Sibelius Academy, 3.6. Spazi for vocal ensemble and electronics (Ring Ensemble) ; Viitasaari, Time of Music, 8.7., Infra for two organs (commission of the festival) ; Takefu International Music Festival, Tondo for shô and bass recorder (Mayumi Miyata and Tosiya Suzuki, 5.9.2005).

In 2006 : Acqui Terme (Italy), 7.10., Napenda for piano and percussion ; 1.-30.11. Gallery Forum Box (Helsinki), Electronic music for Northern countries textile artists’ exhibition
