Christina Kubisch

Germany, b. 1948 in Bremen.

1967-68 Academy of Fine Arts, painting, Stuttgart, Germany.

1969-72 Academy of Music (flute, piano, composition) in Hamburg, Germany and the Jazz Academy of Graz, Austria.

1972-74 Conservatory of Zurich (music), Freie Kunstschule of Zurich, (Fine Arts), Switzerland.

1974-76 Moved to Milan, Italy. Studied composition with Franco Donatoni and electronic music at the Conservatory of Milan. Graduated with Diploma.

 

Sound artist. Trained as a composer, she has artistically developed such techniques as magnetic induction to realize her installations. Her soundwork circles around questions of nature contra culture and how society and transmitted cultural heritage influence what we hear and how. Since 1986 she has added light as an artistic element to her work with sound, either by using light in installations or as an interpretation through sound.

She has exhibited widely, including at the Venice biennale, Documenta 1987, Kassel, Ars Electronica, Linz and Sonic Boom, London. In Sweden her work has been shown at Göteborg City Kunsthalle, Wanås Slotts-park and the IASPIS Gallery, Stockholm. Cooperations with among others dancer Lotta Melin.
