My work could be described as one long on-going project where I constantly interact with Swedish society through the arts scene but also through media. I am interested in using art as a critical tool, and I am always looking for new strategies and new ways of making and presenting art. My work often emphasizes and analyzes different kind of agreements related to power and terms of normality. Lately, I have spent a lot of time working with conversations that illustrate those issues. They have been documented in text, sound or video and have been presented in books, papers, as sound installations, radio, or as performances based on documentary sound.
One of my more well-known works is “Konstnärsklubben“/“The Artist's Club”, an audio study in which I phone members of the so-called Artist's Club in Stockholm. This 150-year-old society is for male artists only – women are not allowed. One of my latest works; “My Business With The Bikini King” started in spring 2005, when Panos Papadopoulos, owner of the swimwear company Panos Emporio, phoned me and asked for advice concerning the future of the Miss Sweden contest. He is the new owner of the rights to the competition. My contribution on the other hand, is that I did a successful protest action against the show on live TV in 2001.
Since 1997 I have collaborated with other people. Right now I am working togehter with three other artists, a jurist and a producer. We have founded the Yes-association, a society for feministic artists. YES! (– JA!) is an association that support highquality art, meaning art that contributes to the overthrowing of patriarchy. YES! also stands for Equality Agreement (Jämlikhets Avtal). We have invented an equality agreement that art-Institutions may sign, to avoid negligence when it comes to equality-matters.
